According to the Indian sports ministry, F 1 is not treated as a sport instead it is an entertainment.
The ministry said that spending huge amounts for holding F 1 race in India is not needed and the money can be spent on development of disciplines which have wider base in the country.
It's a letter which will create a huge debate in the sports circles of the country and would surely rattle the motorsports fraternity.
Initially, JPSK sports limited who promotes the Formula One in the country has requested the sports ministry for getting approval for the remittance of $36.476 mn (Rs.177 crore approx.) to be paid to Formula One administration in UK for holding a race in India but, the ministry inturn sent a letter to the JPSK rejecting on the grounds that the "race would have no impact on the development of sports in the country".
Earlier, JPSK went to Reserve Bank Of India, which asked them to get the ministry's approval.
Sameer Gaur, MD, JPSK says that they had indeed gone to the sports ministry but were rejected but he is confident that they will bring the F 1 charm to India.
